Snow storm could bring 6-10 inches on Saturday

STATE COLLEGE -- AccuWeather.com reports this afternoon that the winter storm already impacting the Midwest and moving toward the Northeast is producing primarily snow, unlike previous storms that have produced large areas of ice.

Steady snow was falling from southern Wisconsin into western Ohio. In Chicago, heavy snow this morning forced the cancellation of 150 flights out of O'Hare International Airport.

The storm will persist across the Midwest Friday night and will also advance as far east as central Pennsylvania.

Saturday, the bulk of the storm will be from Ohio to southern New England. Along and 100 miles to either side of Interstate 80 from Akron Ohio to northern New Jersey there will be 3 to 6 inches of snow with local amounts up to 8 inches here in the Central Susquehanna Valley.

New York is expecting 4 or 5 inches from the storm Saturday afternoon and evening with very poor travel conditions expected in and around the city. The steady snowfall will also impact all of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts later Saturday and Saturday night.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the Central Susquehanna Valley from early Saturday morning to early Sunday morning.
