SHAMOKIN DAM — A 20-year-old Sunbury man was killed in a head-on collision on Routes 11-15 late Saturday night.
Shamokin Dam police identified the man as Jason Noll, of South Third Street, and said he was a passenger in a 1995 Buick Regal driven by Jessica Curry, 21, of Catawissa Avenue, Sunbury.
Curry was driving south on Routes 11-15 by the Colonial Village Plaza around 11:30 p.m. when her car drifted into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Cynthia Scheib, 56, Main Street, Herndon, police said.
Noll was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they didn’t know why Curry’s vehicle drifted out of its lane.
Curry and Scheib were both taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Curry was listed in fair condition Sunday, but Scheib was not listed as a patient, according to a nursing supervisor.
Police said neither Noll nor Curry were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and charges are pending.
Both northbound lanes of Routes 11-15 were closed for 2 1/2 hours while police conducted their investigation. Traffic was detoured through the Colonial Village Plaza to the Old Trail and back onto the highway.
Police are investigating why Curry crossed into oncoming traffic.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Shamokin Dam Fire Company, Hummels Wharf Fire Company, Selinsgrove police, state police at Selinsgrove, the Dauntless Hook & Ladder Ambulance, Americus Ambulance, Selinsgrove Fire Police and Geisinger’s helicopter.
