HUMMELS WHARF — Elementary students from the Line Mountain School District recently displayed their work in an art show at the Susquehanna Valley Mall.

Griffin Smeltz, 8, of Trevorton, was one of more than 400 students whose work was displayed. His was a crayon drawing of an underwater scene inspired by a family vacation.

Griffin loves art so much, he hopes he can do it as a job someday.

“Then I can get paid for something I love,” he said.

It’s students like Griffin whom art teacher Sandy Kessler hopes to inspire every day.

She organizes the art show annually as a way to show off what her students have done.

“I believe that art should be out in public, so people can come by and see what kids can really do,” Kessler said. “It is very important, in all seriousness, to get this work on the map. I want their work to be seen.”

Sisters Tina and Tawney Rebuck, 8 and 11, respectively, also had art in the show. Tina submitted a clay piece, and Tawney, an underwater drawing.

They say Kessler is their inspiration.

“She thinks everything’s great,” Tawney said. “She makes us want to do more.”
