4 hurt in 2 separate Valley traffic accidents

SHAMOKIN — Two drivers were injured after a head-on collision Thursday on Route 54 in Mount Carmel Township, Northumberland County. Both drivers — whose identities were not provided by police — were taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for observation.

Mount Carmel Township police officer Kelly Campbell said one of the drivers was a minor. A Toyota Corolla, driven by a 65-year-old man, was traveling east at 3:15 p.m. when the car crossed into the westbound lane, Campbell said. The other vehicle was a Chevy Trailblazer. Assisting township police were state police from the Stonington station, and Ralpho Township fire and rescue personnel.

Traffic was held up for half-an-hour on Route 54, Campbell said.

Snyder County accident

In Port Trevorton, an Enola driver faces numerous charges after a two-car collision Thursday that sent him and another motorist to Valley hospitals.

James S. Lovett, 44, was speeding in the northbound passing lane of Routes 11-15 in Chapman Township, Snyder County, police said. Around 5:30 p.m., his 1990 Honda Accord rear-ended a 2007 Dodge Charger driven by Linda D. Byers, 60, of Millerstown, about 80 feet south of Route 309. Lovett’s vehicle spun clockwise for about 150 feet before stopping in the left turn lane, facing south. Byers’ car came to a controlled stop in the left turn lane, facing north.

Lovett suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Byers suffered minor injuries and was taken to Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Their conditions were not available Thursday night. Both were wearing lap and shoulder belts, police said.

Lovett’s car sustained major damage to the front end; Byers’ vehicle sustained minor damage.

Lovett was charged with accidents involving injury while not properly licensed, driving while his operating privilege was suspended, and violations of required financial responsibility, driving vehicle at safe speed, obedience to traffic-control devices, following too closely and operation of vehicle without official certificate of inspection.
