LEWISBURG -- The rowdy off-campus party at Bucknell University early Saturday morning may turn out to be a one-man riot.

Kendrick Luse, 22, of Connecticut, became the only student charged with felony riot on Thursday. He also was charged with failure to disperse and two counts of disorderly conduct, Lewisburg police said.

Two other university students have been charged with less serious offenses.

Sgt. Fred Hetrick, of the Lewisburg Police Department, said Luse was charged with a felony because "his actions caused a reaction to the rest of the crowd."

"He was very confrontational," Hetrick said. "In turn, the rest of the student body saw that and that creates more of a disorderly crowd."

Nearly 40 officers from11 police departments were called to St. Catherine Street to break up the party, which was attended by about 300 students. Hetrick said officers picked up Luse at his residence Thursday afternoon, and he was arraigned by District Judge Leo Armbruster. Luse was released on non-monetary bail and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 15.

Another student, Alexander Mackinger, 22, of Rhode Island, was charged Thursday with failure to disperse and two counts of disorderly conduct, all of which were misdemeanors.

Hetrick said Mackinger was clapping and cheering in an attempt to get the students involved. He was removed from the crowd, resulting in lesser charges.

"(Luse) remained with the group and caused the group to keep going," Hetrick said. "A lot of his actions ... caused more of a problem to the rest of the crowd."

The third student, Patrick Stummer, 21, of New York, was cited with disorderly conduct earlier this week.
