MOUNT CARMEL -- Police charged six people with heroin sales violations and related offenses Friday night after being called to assist Northumberland County children and youth and probation officials with an investigation at an apartment at 300 W. Third St.

Children and Youth Services officials were investigating Heather Lynn Smith, 23, who was renting Apt. 6 at the apartment complex, Mount Carmel police said. County adult probation personnel also asked police to assist them in the investigation.

Mount Carmel Sgt. Todd Owens detained several people who were known narcotics users and trying to flee from the apartment.

Northumberland County Adult Probation Officer Kollin Harmon discovered a locked room with three people inside.

Owens and Harmon found heroin, narcotics paraphernalia and other narcotics in the apartment and on people in the apartment.

After taking several people into custody and transporting them to the police station, Smith received a phone call from two people looking for one of the apartment occupants to go with them to Reading to buy heroin and cocaine.

Krystal Klinger, 25, 141 W. North St., Marion Heights, and her husband David Paul Klinger, 43, of the same address, were taken into custody outside the apartment complex after making phone calls to the Smith apartment.

Krystal Klinger was jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash bail on one count each of resisting arrest, simple assault and disorderly conduct and harassment.

Her husband, who was jailed on a probation warrant, will be charged with criminal use of a communication facility, police said.
