SUNBURY — The Northumberland County commissioners Tuesday terminated a one-year lease and plans for an Elizabethville firm to provide adult day care services after its vice president was charged with stealing money from residents of a nursing home in Selinsgrove.

The county had leased office space at the CareerLink building in Shamokin to Wyndham Healthcare just over a month ago and was scheduled to approve a contract Tuesday for the firm to provide daily adult day care services to about 15 people.

Then, last week, Linda Sullivan, 58, vice president of Wyndham Healthcare, was charged in Snyder County with felony counts of theft for allegedly bilking $40,000 from three residents of Loving Care Nursing Facility, 308 Market St., Selinsgrove.

Instead of approving the service contract with Wyndham, the commissioners met in executive session and decided to terminate the lease.

Although Sullivan is “innocent until proven guilty,” Northumberland County solicitor Vincent Rovito said the county acted to end the relationship with Wyndham Healthcare as a way of “maintaining integrity.”

Majority Commissioner Vinny Clausi said the decision was “in the best interest of the day care and residents.”

Services will continue to be provided by county staff at Mountain View Manor as it has for many years, he added.

The commissioners only recently had sought an outside firm to provide adult day care programs after losing between $50,000 and $60,000 a year.

Asked about the continued loss of money, Clausi said, “Right now, we have no choice.”
