SELINSGROVE — A masonry worker was rushed to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after he fell 10 feet at the science building under construction at Susquehanna University.

Michael Weliconich, believed to be in his-mid 20s, was standing on a wooden plank that was unfixed to the building and about 30 feet off the ground, said Gerald S. Cohen, assistance vice president for communications at Susquehanna.

Either the plank moved or the worker took a misstep, Cohen said.

Weliconich’s fall was broken when he crashed onto a metal standoff bracket extending from the west side of the building, Cohen said. Several co-workers got him down the rest of the way.

The contractor of the masonry company, Caretti Inc., of Camp Hill, called 911.

Weliconich was conscious when ambulance crews arrived shortly after the 3:55 p.m. incident, stabilized him, and rushed him to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

A nursing supervisor at Geisinger could not comment on Weliconich’s condition.
