MIDDLEBURG — Two people who allegedly picked up a lost wallet early Monday morning and used a credit card in it to buy cigarettes and a non-prescription medication were apprehended Tuesday evening.
Police received numerous tips after a surveillance photo was published in The Daily Item and on the newspaper's website on Tuesday, which they said helped them identify Nicholas Lewis Keister, 19, of Penns Creek, and Dominica Marie McCarthy-Keister, 22, of Middleburg. They were taken into custody by state police and Middleburg police at a residence on Hackenburg Road in Center Township.
Nicholas Keister was taken to Snyder County Prison in lieu of $25,000 straight bail on a warrant for charges unrelated to this incident. Police said a bottle of Ambesol, the product purchased at the Giant store in Monroe Township, was in Keister’s pocket when he was arrested.
He was charged with access device fraud, forgery and theft.
McCarthy-Keister was released after questioning and will be charged later.
Keister and McCarthy-Keister allegedly found a wallet lost by Braden A. Klinger of Selinsgrove outside the Cinema center at the Susquehanna Valley Mall just after midnight Sunday. About two hours later, they attempted to use a credit card to withdraw funds from an ATM at the Susquehanna Bank branch at Monroe Marketplace. Then they went into the Giant store and purchased two cartons or cigarettes and a bottle of Ambesol. They were recorded on a surveillance camera at the store.
