NORTHUMBERLAND - The Route 11 detour in Northumberland Borough has been lifted.
The contractor reconstructing the concrete section of Route 11 at the railroad underpass has completed that phase of the resurfacing project in the borough and the road was re-opened to traffic Monday afternoon, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation said.
The detour ended a full week ahead of schedule. The contractor also completed a portion of the blacktop resurfacing, near Pineknotter Park, during the road closure.
Meanwhile, a different contractor placing an epoxy overlay on the deck of the Barry King Bridge, the Susquehanna River bridge at Northumberland under a separate contract encountered some equipment and materials delivery issues. Flaggers will control traffic flow during the work. Motorists can expect delays this week, transportation officials said.
