SHAMOKIN DAM — Just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, a Monroe Township restaurant received permission to resume offering amplified outdoor music to its patrons.

Denise Skotedis, co-owner of Skeeter’s Pit BBQ, said Thursday afternoon the restaurant received a letter from the state Liquor Control Board approving the restaurant’s exemption from state law as long as it submits to a Monroe Township noise ordinance.

On June 3, about 30 people attended a hearing at the restaurant, during which an LCB hearing examiner heard testimony from Skotedis as well as several patrons and musicians. No one testified against the restaurant’s request.

“We’re elated and excited” about the decision, Skotedis said Thursday afternoon.

If the weather cooperates, she said, Earl Pickens and his band will perform on the outdoor terrace at the restaurant from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday.

Skotedis thanked Monroe Township for it willingness “to stick their necks out for us,” as well as the people who supported the restaurant’s petition to the LCB.

“We’re anxious to move forward,” she said. “People love the outdoor music.”
