SELINSGROVE -- Police cited a former Northumberland County commissioner for allegedly assaulting his wife.
Charles Lewis Jr., 62, has been charged with one count of simple assault and one count of harassment for allegedly hitting Judy Lewis, 42, in the couple's Limerick Lane home early Sunday morning. Police said the alleged assault left the woman with visible wounds.
The defendant, a Democrat, served two terms as a Northumberland County commissioner, holding office from 1995 to 2003.
In 1997, a former wife filed for and received a protection from abuse order against him.
In court documents, Barbara Lewis alleged the then-county commissioner sexually abused her. She further asserted the act made her more than an hour late for her uncle's viewing.
In a hearing later that month, Charles Lewis Jr. denied his ex-wife's claims. No charges were filed.
Lewis Jr. could not be reached for comment Monday about Sunday's alleged assault.
