SUNBURY — Four youths who allegedly stole bicycles from Haven Ministry on South front Street a week ago were arrested by Sunbury police this morning.

One of them, an 18-year old, was brought to the station in a police car in handcuffs, while the other three, all juveniles, surrendered.

Cathy Teischer, director of Haven Ministry, was waiting in front of the police station on Market Street as the four arrived.

“This has been a good lesson for the kids” (whose bikes were taken), she said. “There are some real creeps out there, but there are also good people.”

Teischer said the outpouring of donations from the community, including new bikes and locks, has been heartening. In fact, she said, on Thursday she received a message from an area man serving in Iraq which included $100 Wal Mart gift cards for the four children whose bikes were taken.

Steve Mazzeo, Sunbury police chief, said the four were being charged with a number of crimes, and he said at least one of the juveniles, a 17-year-old, would be charged as an adult.

Jaime Quinn, a Sunbury police officer, said the theft of the bikes has resulted in numerous calls from residents about abandoned bikes, but none of the bikes recovered were the ones stolen from Haven Ministry. In fact, several were parked in the lobby of the police station.
