MILTON — A Milton man will face several charges after he was involved in a fight with another man at Milton Village on July 19, authorities said.

According to police, they responded to a report of a fight with multiple injuries at Milton Village. In addition to Milton police, units from Lewisburg, East Buffalo Township and Watsontown were dispatched.

When they arrived, they found a large crowd surrounding Michael Applegate and Rebecca Foster. Applegate, 19, was covered with blood, and Foster, 22, said she also had been punched by Nelson Cartagena, 31, of West Milton. They told police they had come to Milton Village to pick up Applegate’s son, who was visiting his mother, Casonago Applegate, 27, who is in a relationship with Cartagena.

Michael Applegate and Cartagena got into a discussion, since Applegate has to call Cartagena’s cell phone to arrange to pick up his son. Cartagena stays at Applegate’s apartment.

Cartagena punched Applegate in the side of the head, knocking him to the ground, and, according to police, continued to punch him as he lay on the ground. Casonga Applegate and Foster pulled Cartagena off Applegate, and as Foster and Applegate moved toward Foster’s vehicle, Cartagena punched Foster in the head.

Witnesses told police Cartegena left the scene in a tan car, and one man gave a plate number to an officer. They checked the address of the vehicle owner, as well as Cartagena’s West Milton address, but did not find him.

Police noted that Foster and Applegate’s children witnessed the entire incident.

While investigating the assault, police entered Casonga Applegate’s apartment, where they said they saw a marijuana pipe. A bag of suspected marijuana allegedly was found in a dresser drawer.

Police then asked Applegate to sign a consent-to-search form, and they allegedly found an additional marijuana pipe and small bags used to package marijuana for sale. Applegate admitted one pipe was hers and said the other pipe and bags belonged to Cartagena.

Cartagena was picked up by police and charged with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. Applegate was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
