Museum fundraiser chugging along

MILTON — Fundraising for the Milton Model Train Museum was launched several weeks ago and nearly one half of the $25,000 goal has been achieved.

The museum will be located on the third floor of the Moose building on South Front Street, Milton.

The Moose has donated the space. Construction of the 20-foot- by 60-foot platform is under way for the train layout and will soon be completed by volunteers.

Once that phase is completed, it will be time to lay the O-gauge track, create the sceneries, and install the many buildings on the layout, which is a depiction of Milton in the 1950s and 1960s.

Some of the buildings can be purchased through manufactures such as Lionel; however, other buildings such as the famed Capitol Theater will have to be custom-built from scratch.

The Rev. A. Robert Walker, who initially donated his collection to start the project, is currently building a model of the Milton Post Office.

Steve Snook has stepped forward to volunteer his time to build a model of Hassinger’s Studebaker Garage, which was once located on Filbert Street. during that era.

Anyone with photos of the garage is asked to contact TIME.

More volunteers are needed to assist with building quality scenery and buildings. Also, O-gauge and HO model trains, track, buildings, or scenery can be donated in addition to cash donations for the model train museum project.

Contact Tony Venios, 742-3504 or Ray Leeser at 742-8241. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to TIME, PO Box 534, Milton, PA 17847.
