Sex assault suspect caught

DANVILLE -- A Danville man wanted to face charges of sexually assaulting a child was picked up Friday in Philadelphia by the U.S. Marshal service.

Mark Anthony Nash was being sought by the Montour County Sheriff's Office on an arrest warrant, dated Aug. 11, signed by Court of Common Pleas President Judge Scott W. Naus. Nash was charged with failure to appear for his court appearance in Montour County.

In late May 2007, the Pennsylvania State Police in Milton conducted an investigation of Nash for his alleged involvement in sexual activity with a minor child in Valley Township. This led to an arrest warrant, dated June 15, 2007, signed by District Judge Marvin Shrawder. Nash was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of indecent assault and a count of corruption of minors.

Nash was arrested on those charges in June 15, 2007. He was released on $25,000 bail six days later. He failed to appear for a pre-trial court appearance scheduled for Aug. 11 in the Montour County Court of Common Pleas.

On Aug. 22, the Montour County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. The case was adopted by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

U.S. Marshals Service personnel, based in Williamsport, began working the case. They developed leads suggesting Nash might be in Philadelphia.

During the early afternoon hours on Friday, U.S. Marshals located and arrested Nash at a location in the 5500 block of Hill Creek Court in Philadelphia. The fugitive was arrested without incident.

When taken into custody, Nash admitted his true identity. Nash will be returned to Montour County to face prosecution on the sex offense charges.
