WATSONTOWN — A Wednesday sexual assault left the victim so distraught that she ran crying down Main Street to report the attack to police, tripping and falling along the way.

Within hours, police arrested Aaron L. Clark, 26, of Hughesville, and charged him with the 2 p.m. attack. According to arrest documents, Clark had gone to the 20-year-old woman’s home to wait for his girlfriend to get off work.

Police said Clark attacked the woman while they were sitting on a couch, then continued when they slid off onto the floor.

At one point, the woman told police, as she cried and begged him to stop, he told her to stop screaming because no one would hear her.

When he finished his attack, he left, telling her he was going to buy cigarettes and a drink.

The woman telephoned a friend and then walked a few blocks to the Watsontown Police Department to report the assault. Police said the woman was crying so hard as she made her way to the police station that she tripped and fell on the sidewalk, skinning her knees.

She was taken to Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg, where she was examined and treated by trained sexual assault nurse examiners.

A state trooper from the Record and Identification unit processed the crime scene for Watsontown police, and officials from the Northumberland County district attorney’s office also assisted with the investigation.

Clark was picked up by police without incident in the Matchin Street area of Watsontown around 5:45 p.m.

He was taken before District Judge W.F. Kear and arraigned on charges of rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault. He was taken to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.
