Trusal added that 95 percent of his investigations relate to child pornography cases.
"To be honest," he said, "I've seen so many images of virtual (children). ... It's very easy to tell in my mind."
Witness Logan Beers said he was a friend of Dreistadt and in the Milton Fire Department with the accused.
Beers testified that he saw Dreistadt downloading a file titled "gay preteen porn" on his computer around Dec. 12 in the firehouse and was later confronted by a superior about the incident.
Beers also testified that there were times when Dreistadt did not have the computer in his presence or possession, but that Beers believed it was password-protected.
He testified he didn't see the computer after the December incident.
Ulrich said the investigation began after he was contacted by an assistant fire chief about possible discussion with Beers on the incident.
Fire Chief Wayne "Sam" Shaffer had contacted him with similar findings, Ulrich testified.
After obtaining a search warrant, Ulrich said he approached Dreistadt at the fire department in January. Dreistadt said he didn't know where the computer was, Ulrich said.
The laptop was on a table in the same room as Dreistadt, Ulrich said.
All 18 counts will be bound over to court, Kear said. Dreistadt remains free on $25,000 cash bail.
As they left the courthouse, Dreistadt was accompanied by his parents and sister, who said they will stand beside him.
