NEW COLUMBIA — Two Williamsport residents have been charged with beating a Union County man and his dog with a pipe and robbing him Sunday night.
Levi Mathis, 18, was arraigned Monday by District Judge Edward G. Mihalik Jr., Selinsgrove, for robbery, criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated assault, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief and cruelty to animals.
Kathy Williams, 35, was arraigned Monday by District Judge Jeffrey L. Mensch, Mifflinburg, for robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, theft and criminal mischief.
Jeffrey Young, 53, of 1612 White Deer Pike, New Columbia, was friends with Williams and invited her into his house around 11 p.m. Sunday, said trooper Rob Reeves of Milton state police.
Mathis and another person then entered the home and hit Young several times with a large pipe, Reeves said, adding that Mathis also hit Young’s German shepherd in the face with the pipe.
Young suffered minor to moderate injuries but refused medical treatment.
The third person involved in the attack has yet to be apprehended.
“We do have some leads on the third,” Reeves said, but added he didn’t know when any further action would take place.
Young told police he had $370 stolen, as well as a cell phone.
Hearings for Mathis and Williams are set to be held before District Judge Leo Armbruster Oct. 16.
State police from Montoursville assisted Milton state police.
