TREVORTON -- Line Mountain High School science classes will be transformed into technologically sophisticated Classrooms for the Future after a shipment of laptop computers arrives at the school in two to three weeks, Superintendent David Campbell said during Tuesday night's school board meeting.

"Teachers are excited, and I know our students are excited," he said.

He said the Classrooms for the Future program aims to put a laptop computer on every high school English, math, science and social studies desk and to provide teachers with a multimedia workstation and intensive training to enhance education.

The program is aimed at ninth- through 12th-grade students at Line Mountain. "That will allow every student at the high school to get a chance to spend some time there," Campbell said.

As soon as the computers arrive, the work to put the classroom together will begin.

It won't take long to get things up and running, he said. "By the second semester, by January 2009, we'll really be rocking."

High school Principal Jeffrey Roadcap discussed the e-School initiative with board Chairman Troy Laudenslager.

"The significance of having an e-School software program is to allow parents to become more involved in their child's school experience," Roadcap said. Once the program is in place, parents will be able to log onto a Web page that will document their child's work and performance in the classroom. There also will be lesson plans, homework assignments and attendance records.

"The overall purpose of the program is to help with parent-teacher-student communication," he said.

In other business, the board asked the administration to get bids for asbestos abatement at the Trevorton Elementary School. They will be opened Thursday.

The next two school board meeting dates were changed to Nov. 4 and Nov. 18.

The policy committee met before the board meeting. Members went over the volunteer policy and a plan to establish a set of goals for the superintendent and the district.
