WATSONTOWN — If you want to spend some time with ghosts, goblins and other creepy characters, the Halloween Hayride and Haunted Trail may be just the thing.
Sponsored by the Warrior Run Area Fire Department, this spooky session takes place from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Oct. 30.
Brave visitors can park at Faith Chapel, 2155 White Deer Pike, New Columbia, where it all starts.
“We have a 15-minute hayride up to the haunted trail,” said Kathy Kling, a member of the fire department. “If you don’t want to do the hayride, we have refreshments and a nice fire.”
Kling said the haunted trail this year features a Wizard of Oz theme, with people along the way dressed as characters from that much-loved story. In addition, she said, there are clowns, a cemetery scene, an operating table and a big scary gorilla.
“Some parts are scary and may not be suitable for kids,” she said.
This is the second year for the hayride and haunted trail, she said. The whole thing is the brainchild of three Watsontown business owners who are great community boosters.
“It’s amazing how much these three women do,” Kling said. “They’ve been working on this for months now, and they’ve got their families involved, too.”
Wendy Shoemaker, Rene Toro and Karen Bottdorf are the organizers and guiding hands behind the event, she said.
“They’ve also gotten donations from a number of other businesses in town,” Kling said.
Proceeds after expenses are donated to the fire department and ambulance.
