LEWISBURG -- The LPN Career Center has plans to move from its current Sunbury location to a larger facility in Lewisburg, with a scheduled occupancy date of January 2010.

According to the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit’s October Board Report, directors gave the LPN Career Center permission to relocate from the Sunbury Fourth Street Plaza to a building on St. Mary Street in Lewisburg, pending a lease agreement. The Lewisburg building formerly housed the Pennsylvania House showroom and is now owned by M-C Federal Credit Union.

Renovations will be made in December, the report said, and occupancy is scheduled for January 2010.

“On Wednesday night, the CSIU board of directors authorized the execution of a lease when it becomes final. The new location would provide additional instructional space that will accommodate more students,” said Jennifer Spotts, CSIU Public Relations Project Manager, on Friday.

She added there is currently a waiting list for acceptance into the program.

In August, the full-time class had 57 graduates and part time class had 17 graduates in December, Spotts said.

“The need for well-trained nursing professionals in the area is well documented,” she continued. “Our expansion plans are intended to help meet the demand in the Greater Susquehanna Valley.

The new facility, which is larger than the current space by 3,500 square feet, will allow the center to accept an increased number of students into the program.

The Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center is an instructional program that prepares adult students for a career as a licensed practical nurse. Graduates are eligible to take the Pennsylvania state licensing exam. The program is located in the North Fourth Street Plaza in Sunbury. Students also attend clinical sites in local hospitals and nursing homes.

The center has been in business for over 40 years and is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
