Heat tape may have sparked mobile home fire

WINFIELD - Heat tape around an oil furnace may have sparked a fire at around noon today in a mobile home at 155 Goodheart Circle, just off County Line Road in Union Township, Union County.
Richard McGee Sr., 66, lived alone in the home. When the oil ran out in his furnace, he attempted to refuel and then bleed the lines. As he was turning the switch for the blower, he noticed smoke and then fire. He then left his home, and walked to a neighbor’s house, who called the fire department.
Fire crews from Hummel’s Wharf and Shamokin Dam tore skirting off the mobile home to reach the fire on the underside of the structure. McGee did not have insurance, fire officials said. A loss estimate was not available this afternoon.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
