SUNBURY — Construction in Cameron Park has chased Santa Claus from his traditional headquarters to North Fifth Street this year.

Instead of setting up house at the eastern end of Cameron Park, as has been the tradition in the city for many years, Santa Claus will spend this holiday season in Central Park on North Fifth Street.

Santa will arrive in Sunbury in the annual holiday parade, which will step off at about 6:15 p.m. Nov. 27.

The parade will begin on Raspberry Avenue and wind its way to South 10th Street to Market Street and from Market Street to North Fifth Street, ending at Central Park.

Entertainment will be provided by the Sunbury City Band.

The albino deer, brought to the city annually from the Lake Tobias Wildlife Park, also will make their home in Central Park this year.

“Kids will still be able to drop their letters off to Santa,” city administrative assistant Cheryl Delsite said. “The mailbox will be down there.”

Missing from this year’s citywide celebration will be a Christmas tree, Delsite said, as there is no place to anchor it in Central Park.

Santa Claus will make his first arrival in the Valley in rousing style Saturday with a parade at the Susquehanna Valley Mall, Hummels Wharf.

Thousands are expected to ring in the holiday season at the mall’s holiday parade, beginning at 9 a.m.

The jolly old elf will reign over the activity-packed festival, featuring the 31st annual gala parade of themed floats, holiday costumed characters and local high school marching bands.

Santa Claus will join the parade en route to his enchanted forest in the mall’s Bon-Ton Court, where he will hear wish lists from children, pose for photos and give gifts until Christmas Eve.

After the parade, families can watch the singing- and dancing-filled musical “Dreams Come True: A Fairytale Christmas,” featuring Snow White, Peter Pan, Cinderella and Aladdin, performed in the Boscov’s Court at 11 a.m.
