Volunteers from the community prepared to serve 70 meals between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday. Rain washed out a scheduled tree-lighting event in the borough. Other community dinners for Thanksgiving are planned throughout the Valley this week.

Community Thanksgiving dinners are planned throughout the Valley Thursday. Here is a list of them:

THANKSGIVING DINNER/Danville

The 26th annual free community Thanksgiving dinner, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 2314, begins at noon at St. Joseph School, Ferry Street. The sit down, full course traditional meal includes homemade pies for dessert. Reservations not needed. Christmas door prizes awarded. Anyone wishing to donate or in need of transportation should contact the parish office at 275-2512.

THANKSGIVING DINNER/Lewisburg

A free Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 18 Market St. For delivery or transportation to the church call 524-4419.

FREE THANKSGIVING MEAL/Northumberland

A free Thanksgiving meal will be served at noon at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sixth and King streets. Meal deliveries are available for elderly shut-ins in the Northumberland and Sunbury area by calling 473-9145 and leave a message.

THANKSGIVING DINNER/Selinsgrove

A free Thanksgiving dinner will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 129 N. Market St. All welcome. No reservations needed. Rides or home delivery available. More information, 374-8289.

THANKSGIVING DAY BUFFET/Shamokin Dam

A Thanksgiving Day buffet will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Shamokin Dam Fire Company, Old Trail, behind Aldi’s. Cost is $13.95 for adults, $6.95 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and younger. Reservations, 743-8304. Walk-ins welcome.

FREE THANKSGIVING DINNER/Sunbury

The annual free Thanksgiving dinner, sponsored by Rhonda Fisher and Angels, will be served at Special Occasions, 132 S. Second St. A continental breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. with dinner being served at noon. For free delivery within a 10 mile radius call 988-5340. Features fellowship, food, games, movies, and free blanket and clothes giveaway. Anyone wishing to donate money, food items, or help in any way may contact Rhonda at 658-2634 or 765-3850.
