Kindergarten students: "How To Cook A Turkey"

For the ninth year in a row, students in Megan Geise's kindergarten class at Watsontown Elementary have put together their own "How To Cook A Turkey" book. The recipes are .... priceless.

"My mom buys our turkey at Weis. She cuts the head off. She pops the eyeballs out and throws them away. She cooks the rest of the turkey. She flattens the turkey and puts it in the oven. She cooks it for 10 seconds. She knows it is done when she counts to 10. When the oven beeps, she gets it out. We eat all of the stuff that is on the turkey. We eat the feathers. One got stuck in my throat. I coughed and it came out. It was good!"

— Wyatt Newman

"My gram and mom make our turkey. The turkey comes from the grocery store. They bring it home. They clean the turkey with soap and water. They put barbecue on the turkey and put it in the stove on a pan. I think for 10 minutes at 30 degrees. They check it by looking through the glass door. A little thing rings and that means it is done. They take it out, cut it up, and let us eat. I like it!"

— Justin Blair

"Sometimes my dad shoots the turkey. He goes into the woods in the middle of the night. He takes a flashlight with him so that he can see. If he sees a bear, he will run to his car fast. He has a tree house that he waits in. He waits about 3 minutes for the turkey to come. He jumps down quietly and shoots it. He likes to shoot ones with just 3 or 4 feathers. He rips off the feathers while he is in the woods. He brings it back to his truck (in the back). He puts it in a garbage bag. He puts some aerosol in the bag so it doesn't smell. He lets the bullet in the turkey. He pulls it out when he gets home. He waits until tomorrow to show my mom and clean it. He takes a towel and wipes it. They put 2 'spritzes' of salt and pepper on the turkey. They put oil in the pan and on the turkey. They put it in the microwave and turn it to '4, 55.'"

— Kaelyn Watson

"My mom buys our turkey at a farm. The farm smells bad. We bring it home. She takes the feathers off with her hand and throws them in the trash. She puts it in the microwave for 6 hours. She looks at the microwave time to know when it is done. She takes it out and puts salsa on it. She cuts it and then we eat it. It is good. It tastes like meat."

— Francisco Caraballo

"Thanksgiving turkeys come from eggs. They have a gobbler and a beak. They can fly. They are fat. My dad shoots our turkey for Thanksgiving. We take it to our house and take all of the feathers off with a feather "saurer." We check it for ticks. We put it in the oven. Cook it for 45 minutes at 40 degrees. We know it is done when the timer goes off."
