LEWISBURG -- The Fine Arts Committee of Christ's Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, will present a Christmas Cantata on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The concert is free and the church is handicap accessible. A reception will follow the concert.
The cantata will be an ecumenical presentation sung by choristers from several Lewisburg churches. The accompaniment will be provided by a 12-piece chamber orchestra from the Greater Susquehanna Valley and the organ will be played by Barbara Smillie.
Director is Shirley Smith, director of the church's Music Ministries.
In addition to the cantata, several organ works will be performed by Smith and Smillie.
"A Christmas Cantata" was written by Walter W. Shurr, a resident of Tucson, Ariz., and a former student of Smith's. The composition is a melodic work set very much in the style of Mozart.
Smith received her B.M. in organ performance from Oberlin Conservatory, her M.M. from George Washington University, and her M.A. in pastoral counseling from Norwich University.
Smillie, organist, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. For more than 25 years she was organist and director of music at Zion Lutheran Church in Sunbury.
For more information call Shirley at the church at 524-0745.
