SUNBURY -- Shawn Badman and his fiancee, Jessica Cramer, are hoping for just a few essentials for themselves and their 1-year-old son, Logan, this Christmas.
Since Badman was laid off from his job at Keystone Forging in October, he's been working odd jobs, Cramer said.
"But nothing consistent," his fiancee said. "Nothing that would pan out into a full-time job."
Cramer, 28, said she is applying to go to school and is currently going through occupational vocational rehabilitation for a disability.
She collects Social Security for her disability and Badman said he is currently receiving unemployment benefits, but they still need a little extra help for the holidays.
Badman, 35, said all they really need is some food and clothing and a few small Christmas gifts for their son.
Badman said he went to the Salvation Army seeking assistance shortly after he was laid off and happened to walk in the same day it was taking applications for the Needy Family Fund.
He was encouraged to sign up.
"That's really nice," he said. "That helps out a lot."
The Needy Family Fund, sponsored by The Daily Item, Sunbury Broadcasting Corp. and Susquehanna Bank, raises money during the holidays to buy food, clothing and gifts for the Valley's less fortunate. It is administered by Salvation Army citadels in Milton and Sunbury.
Today's balance is $58,482.
