Stolen identity used to get student loans

LEWISBURG — A Lewisburg man got an education in identity theft recently when he started getting calls about student loans he hadn’t taken out.

According to state police at Milton, sometime between June 1 and Aug. 23, a known individual used the personal information of Matthew Shivley, 42, of Newman Road, Kelly Township, on student loan applications.

When the suspect failed to keep up with the loan payments, Shively was contacted by SallieMae and learned of the forgery.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
