Alleged Northumberland County Prison beatings prompt second lawsuit

SUNBURY - A Herndon man serving time in the Northumberland County Prison has become the second prisoner to file a lawsuit claiming he was viciously beaten by guards at the prison on Sept. 9.

Erick Trometter’s lawsuit, filed in federal court, echoes allegations included in a lawsuit filed by Jeffrey Adams earlier this week. Both men have indicated they are seeking $1 million in damages.

Trometter’s lawsuit includes an affidavit signed by another inmate, Nicholas Birster, who claims to have witnessed the guards beating Trometter and Adams. Birster also claims that he heard Sgt. Krista Brouse tell the inmates two dates later that they would be attacked again if they continued to suggest that they wanted to file a grievance.
