'Moose' tattoo leads to arrest of molester

DANVILLE —  A tell-tale tattoo gave away a convicted molester who has been charged with trespassing at a public housing complex.

Patrolman Matthew Gerst was patrolling Evergreen Point on Wednesday and saw an individual lying under a green truck in the housing complex parking lot.

He observed a tattoo on man’s right leg that read “Moose.” Gerst knew Brandon Richard Mowrer, 26, of the rear of 356 Ferry St., and also knew Mowrer was referred to as “Moose.”

The police officer then called Mowrer’s name. Mowrer replied, “Yeah?”

Satisfied that he had his man, Gerst arrested Mowrer and charged him with defiant trespass.

Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder arraigned Mowrer and committed him to the county jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Mowrer previously pleaded guilty to two sexual assault charges of a girl and faces up to 45 years in jail and $35,000 in fines.

A Harrisburg board is conducting an assessment to determine whether Mowrer is a sexually violent predator.

The girl was 6 and 7 years old in 2007 and 2008 when the assaults occurred.

Danville police filed charges in January 2011.
