Police lock down Montandon Elementary while hunting sex suspect

MONTANDON — Authorities locked down the Montandon Elementary School for more than an hour Wednesday after they received a call from a woman who claimed a man had entered her bedroom and tried to rape her.

State police at Milton identified the man as Kenneth James Myers, 38, of Montandon. He was charged with criminal attempt rape, indecent assault, simple assault and harassment.

Police said he entered the woman’s bedroom and tried to remove her jeans.

Myers and the woman fought, and after a struggle, the woman was able to break free and flee the home to call 911 at about 9:45 a.m., court documents said.

Myers also fled the scene and was in the area of the elementary school, which led police to lock the building while they searched for him.

Police used a helicopter in the search. Myers was spotted in a nearby field where he was arrested, police said.

Police said they closed the school as a precaution. There was no indication that Myers was going there, they said.

The school was back to normal operations within two hours, police said.
