Police search Barbour's home again

SELINSGROVE — Sunbury police on Thursday evening crawled onto the roof of a two-story North Water Street home and examined its gutters early in a 2½-hour search that produced handfuls of boxes and bags whose contents may be tied to the Nov. 11 stabbing death of a Port Trevorton resident.

Among those who lived at the home were Elytte and Miranda Barbour, the newlywed couple who city police accuse of strangling and slashing to death engineer Troy LaFerrara, then dumping his body in a Sunbury alley.

Sunbury police on Thursday would not say what they hoped to find in the residence while executing a second search warrant this week of the property.

The Barbours are behind bars, Elytte in Columbia County and Miranda in Northumberland County.

A Snyder County judge late Thursday afternoon issued another sealed search warrant and Sunbury officers Travis Bremigen and Brad Slack were seen entering the home around 4:30 p.m.

“Here we go again,” a neighbor said.

Sunbury Cpl. Jamie Quinn arrived later and several flashes from what appeared to be a police camera were seen coming from a second-story room.

Two officers emerged from a second- story window, made their way onto the roof and used a flashlight to illuminate the home’s gutters.

Around 7 p.m., police carried what appeared to be two full plastic black garbage bags and two to three boxes from the home, and left.

The 101 N. Water Street home has been a curiosity to passersby, neighbors said.

“This is becoming an everyday thing,” a neighbor said. “We see cars drive by and slow down and look around all the time now.”

Sunbury police Chief Steve Mazzeo on Thursday would only say: “This is on ongoing investigation.”

Elytte Barbour, 22, and Miranda Barbour, 18, were arrested three days apart last week and charged in the death of LaFerrara.
