NEW COLUMBIA — The Baltimore-based company that sought to build a tire-fueled burner adjacent to the National Gypsum plant has informed the state Department of Environmental Protection that the project will be terminated.
“The department received verbal notification from En-Tire on Jan. 7 that it was not proceeding with the White Deer Energy Project and would be requesting termination of its air quality plan approval, said Dan Spadoni, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection in Williamsport.
“DEP received this request in writing on Jan. 9, and it will be granted in accordance with the applicable requirements of the department’s Chapter 127 air quality regulations,” Spadoni said.
Officials from White Deer Township and a citizen’s “Tire Team” that opposed the plant said today that hearings they were to have with the Environmental Hearing Board on Friday have been canceled.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
