Cops: Mifflinburg man tries to steer woman's car into tree

A 29-year-old Mifflinburg man was arraigned Thursday morning on aggravated assault and other charges after he grabbed the steering wheel of a vehicle traveling along 104 in Snyder County and nearly caused an accident.

State police at Selinsgrove said Justin David Haines, of 346 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, was a passenger in an unidentified 35-year-old woman’s vehicle at 12:36 a.m. when the incident happened.

Haines allegedly grabbed the woman’s steering wheel as the vehicle was traveling on Route 104 just north of Keister Road in Centre Township, forcing the vehicle to travel into the opposite lane, off an embankment and narrowly missing a tree, police said.

He was arraigned before on-call District Judge John H. Reed on charges of aggravated asssault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $25,000.
