Mifflinburg resident faces trial over audio recordings

MIDDLEBURG — A Mifflinburg man charged with secretly recording conversations with two Snyder County employees and posting the recordings on Facebook is heading to trial following a preliminary hearing this morning.

District Judge Lori R. Hackenberg ruled Wednesday morning there is enough evidence to move forward against John Daniel Arndt, 45, of 810 Chestnut St., who allegedly created a video and audio recording of conversations he had with Jennifer Bowersox, an employee in the district attorney’s office, and Karen Varner of the county Domestic Relations office at the Middleburg courthouse on Sept. 13 and then posted it on the social media site, according to police.

Bowersox and Varner said they were never informed by Arndt that he was recording their conversation, police said.

It’s against the law to audiotape another person without their consent.

Arndt is charged with intercepting communications, a third-degree felony.
