Police: Teen set Port Trevorton fire while aunt and uncle slept

— PORT TREVORTON — A 16-year-old girl told a district judge Monday that she wanted to commit suicide at 2 a.m. today as she doused rags with perfume and set them on fire in the stairwell of her Port Trevorton home.

Teasia Marie Long, 16, of 1554 Main St., Port Trevorton, was arraigned as an adult on two counts of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated and simple assault and one count each of arson, criminal mischief and possession of instruments of crime about 10 hours after the fire which injured her aunt and uncle, Nancy and Gerald Bickhart, who have raised Long for the past 15 years.

Long told District Judge John Reed of Selinsgrove that she has been treated for mental health issues and her actions today followed a fight she had with her guardians, who she referred to as her mother and father. She allegedly started the fire while her aunt and uncle were asleep in the home, according to court documents.

Long reportedly fled from the home, forced out by smoke, but then attempted to re-enter the home in an attempt to resuce two of the family's three dogs.

Following her arraignment, Long was committed to the Snyder County Prison in lieu of $200,000 cash bail.

Mrs. Bickhart is now undergoing treatment at the Lehigh Valley Hospital’s burn unit in Allentown and Mr. Bickhart is at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
