Expect today to be flaky

SUNBURY — Keep dreaming, Bing.

While there might be a little snow on the ground Christmas day, there won’t be any flakes falling from the sky as the winter holiday comes wedged between two storms, according to AccuWeather.

So much for that white Christmas.

Late this afternoon, snow will begin to fall, but it should let up by tonight, said Mike Pigott, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.

“There should be about an inch in Selinsgrove, and in the more northern areas, toward Williamsport, there will be an inch to two inches,” Pigott said. “Christmas is kind of sandwiched in between two storms,”

That will leave some white stuff on the ground, but it won’t be snowing on Christmas day, Pigott said.

But it hasn’t been too long since there were some flakes on Dec. 25. The most recent time was in 2010, when it snowed a trace amount, Pigott said.

On Wednesday, another storm will bring a wintry mix to the region, with a mixture of snow and sleet changing to rain in the afternoon, which may make for some tough driving for post-holiday shoppers, Pigott said.

“It’s going to be pretty sloppy and wet,” he said. “Not a great drive as people go to use their gift cards.”
