He had nine days off for the holiday season and decided to do something he was thinking about for the past few years.
Try to marry his girlfriend.
Matt Dodge, 28, of Northumberland, has been serving in the Navy, in Norfolk, Va., since 2008 and graduated from Shikellamy High School in 2003.
Dodge said his fiancee, Kyra Longenberger, 23, of Hazleton, knew the big question was coming; she just didn’t know when.
Dodge was thinking of a creative way to pop the question and decided to get Christmas lights and pay a visit to the new Sunbury riverfront amphitheater.
“I thought about getting the lights and tying them together so when they light up it will say, “Will you marry me,” he said.
Shawn Dodge, 33, of Northumberland joined his brother and the pair used the seating at the amphitheater to string out several hundred lights.
The plan was for Matt to take Kyra to the top of the mountain at Ted’s On The Hill, in Shamokin Dam, for a nice scenic look at Christmas lights in Sunbury.
Once the couple arrived Matt was going to text his brother and Shawn would plug in the lights.
It took the brothers about two hours to complete the task and then the wait was on.
But not for long.
“She said yes,” a delighted Dodge said, about one hour after Kyra saw the lights.
