Columbia County brothers who kept Chihuahuas face new charges

BLOOMSBURG — Two Columbia County brothers accused last year in one of the state's worst cases of animal hoarding face new charges stemming from a December inspection that found 32 dogs at their home.

Thomas Ambrosia and his brother, Albert Ambrosia, were charged with running a kennel without a license; failing to get dog licenses; and failing to get rabies shots for their pets.

Thomas Ambrosia said that he intends to fight the charges.

The brothers could have avoided prosecution by giving away some dogs, but they declined. Owners need a kennel license to keep more than 25 dogs.

The brothers pleaded guilty to animal cruelty last year after 185 Chihuahuas were seized from their home in Benton.
