Union County recycling days set for May

LEWISBURG – Start digging through the closets and combing through the attics: Union County’s 2013 recycling event is happening May 17 and 18 at the Kelly Township Municipal Building.

The event is funded in part by a Department of Environmental Protection Grant. It will be held rain or shine from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 17, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18.

Last year, the popular, countywide event brought out enough appliances, metals, electronics, computers, clothing and textiles to fill four semitrucks. A detailed list of accepted materials is on the county’s website www.unioncountypa.org. For more information, call the recycling hotline at (570) 524-9300.

The collection is free except for air conditioners, dehumidifiers, freezers and refrigerators, which are $5 a piece. All refrigerators and freezers must have their doors removed before recycling. A certificate must be presented for appliances that already have had the Freon removed.
