— DALMATIA— A Dalmatia man who was accidentally shot on the first day of the rifled deer hunting season, was treated and released, said an official from the Northeast Regional Office of the Pennsylvania

The incident occurred in southwest Northumberland County during a deer drive in a “rolling field,” said William M. Williams, an information supervisor with the PGC on Tuesday.

Williams said Jamie Gasiewski was in a hunting party on Nov. 26 when, at about 3:30 p.m., he “got ahead of the deer drive. When a buck ran back through the line, a hunter in the group, Charles Erdman, of Herndon, fired and shot Gasiewski through the forearm and tricep.”

Erdman fired a Remington .30-06 Model 760, Williams said.

Gasiewski is expected to make a full recovery.

Erdman was charged with a summary offense of shooting at or causing injury to human beings, which is a violation of section 25-22a of the game code, Williams said. It was filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum, Sunbury, Williams said.

Williams said Erdman could lose his license, “but the law enforcement division of the game commission in Harrisburg will make that determination.”

The two-week deer hunting season ended Dec. 8.
