LEWISBURG — A local park has gone to the dogs.
Sunday marked the opening of the new Lewisburg Dog Park, the capstone project for members of Company A of Bucknell University’s Management 101 class.
The park was the project of the student company “A’s Towels for Dog Howls,” composed of 27 Bucknell students.
“Words can’t describe my excitement seeing the dogs playing and the community members enjoying it even more so,” said Taylor Cotter, service division vice president of A’s Towels for Dog Howls and a sophomore global management major.
More than 20 dogs and their owners poured into the park from 1 to 3 p.m., when its grand opening was celebrated.
The park, at St. Mary and St. Lawrence streets, normally is used during the summer as a children’s camp and during the winter as an ice skating rink. The dog park will be open every day during the next two weeks, after which it will close to get the park ready for the summer camp. The dog park will reopen again in the fall.
Katie Davis, of the Buffalo Valley Recreational Authority, said her group wanted a dog park in the area for a while. They have gradually been adding more dog-friendly events, including pool days and fun runs. “We were hoping a Management 101 class would bite, and it did,” she said.
