Buffalo Valley Police search for hit-run driver

LEWISBURG — Police are reviewing surveillance video from nearby stores to try to identify the vehicle that struck and left a Lewisburg pedestrian in serious condition.

Jose Santiago-Martine, 62, of St. John Street, was walking near the intersection of Routes 15 and 192 shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit by a vehicle, which fled, Buffalo Valley Regional Police said.

Santiago-Martine was taken to Evangelical Community Hospital for treatment, then was flown by medical helicopter to Gesinger Medical Center, Danville, said Buffalo Valley Regional Police Chief Paul Yost.

Santiago-Martine was listed in serious condition at Geisinger on Thursday.

Police do not have a description of the vehicle, but are reviewing evidence and surveillance footage, Yost said.

While hitting something or someone may scare drivers, it’s better to always stay at the scene of an accident, Yost said.

“It’s a possibility a pedestrian may have been at fault, so really there would have been no issue with the operator,” he said.

Now, after fleeing, the driver is facing one of the most serious hit-and-run charges possible, Yost said.
