SELINSGROVE — A 24-year-old Selinsgrove man is being held in the Snyder County jail on felony rape and related charges.
Marquale Jamal Smith, of 204 Fairview Drive, is accused of raping a woman at his Penn Township home on May 13.
The woman said he would not allow her to leave his home, took her phone from her and sexually assaulted her despite her pleas to let her go, according to a criminal complaint filed by state police at Selinsgrove.
Smith admitted he got angry and smashed her phone while they discussed their relationship, but said they engaged in consensual sex, court records said.
He is charged with felony rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and sexual assault and misdemeanor false imprisonment, indecent assault and criminal mischief.
Smith is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday before District Judge John H. Reed.
