Commissioner Vinny Clausi admitted to hospital, meeting canceled

SUNBURY — The Northumberland County Commissioner regular and salary board meetings that were scheduled for Tuesday are canceled due to Commissioner Vinny Clausi being admitted to the hospital.

Karen Collier, administrative secretary, confirmed that Clausi was taken to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township, where he was undergoing tests to determine his ailments.

His wife Debbie relayed the message to Collier.

At least one of the other commissioners were unable to attend the 1 p.m. meeting, therefore a quorum  would not have been met.

The commissioners were planning on whether to accept county assistant solicitor John Muncer and administrative assistant Janet Povish to take on the duties of the chief clerk position, which will be left vacant Friday when Gary Steffen retires Friday.

Clausi has recommended that Muncer, who is paid $65,180, should receive an additional $20,000 while Povish, who is paid $35,833, should receive an added $15,000.

The move, which Commissioner Rick Shoch is opposed, will save the county $40,000, Clausi said.

The salary board meeting will instead be held at 1 p.m. before the Tuesday, June 17, regular commissioner meeting at the Northumberland County Administration Building.
