Police: Man admits stealing purse from shopping cart

DANVILLE — A Danville area man captured on video has admitted to stealing a woman’s purse inside a supermarket on Thursday, authorities said.

Kyle T. Tamecki, 24, of 248 E. Diehl Road, told Danville police he took the purse of Julia Enright from her shopping cart and discarded it in a potato bin in the produce section after attention became centered on him. The purse and its contents were valued at $150.

Enright told police her purse was in the front part of the cart when she bent over to look at candy with the cart in front of her at Giant Foods on Church Street. She heard a noise, looked up and noticed her purse was missing.

She saw a young man carrying her bag and yelled, “You have my purse. He took my purse. Stop him.”

She heard a thud, and the man said, “I don’t have your purse,” she told police. He walked away, and her purse was found in the bin.

Giant employee Diane Hendricks recorded the license plate of the black Toyota that Tamecki left in. Police said it was registered to Alexa Marie Snyder, also known as Alexa Tamecki, of the same address as Tamecki.

Another Giant employee, Darryl Hertzog, told police he heard the woman say a man took her purse. He saw the young man in the produce section and said another employee followed the suspect to the parking lot. Hertzog found the purse in the bin.

On Friday, police received information that Snyder had been staying in the 300 building of Evergreen Pointe in Mahoning Township, Montour County.

Danville Sgt. William Wilt III, Chief Eric Gill and Mahoning police found Snyder and Tamecki there and took Tamecki into custody. Wilt charged him with theft and receiving stolen property.
