Damaged dam forces draining of lake in Centre County

HARRISBURG — State officials are planning to drain a central Pennsylvania reservoir popular with anglers and boaters.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission says the dam at Centre County's Colyer Lake is in bad shape and poses a threat to residents and businesses downstream.

The commission plans to drain the lake so it can study the dam's structural integrity. The lake will remain drawn down until funding can be secured to make repairs.

The drawdown will begin next week and may take up to three months to complete. Biologists are developing a plan to remove and relocate as many fish as possible. Officials say the 77-acre reservoir in Potter Township will remain open for the first portion of the drawdown.
