Police: 56-year-old 'drunk guy' charged after sweet talking teen

MIFFLINBURG - Borough police charged a 56-year-old Mifflinburg man with drunk driving after an Oct. 21 incident in which they were summoned to the parking lot of a school where a woman complained that Terry Kline had said something inappropriate to her granddaughter.

Officers said the 15-year-old girl was sitting in a car near the Mifflinburg Area School District administration building when a man motioned for her to approach his vehicle. The girl told police she didn’t know what the man wanted so she went to investigate.

Acccording to police, when she neared the vehicle, the man allegedly said, “I must say, it’s like love at first sight, but that’s never gonna happen, is it?”

The girl replied, “No,” and then went and told her grandmother about the exchange.

Police said that when officers questioned Kline, he appeared intoxicated and preliminary tests suggested his blood-alcohol concentration was 0.195 percent, more than double the legal limit.

Officers said that the teen’s mother asked that Kline not be prosecuted for the episode. The mother reportedly told police the girl looks older than her age, and she was wearing a Bucknell sweatshirt, which may have confused Kline who she described as “a drunk guy saying drunk things.”

Police said that Kline told an officer, he’d had his last drink around 3 p.m., roughly three hours before the encounter with the teen-ager. He was charged with drunk driving and public intoxication.
