WILLIAMSPORT — A former guard at the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary has been placed on one year’s probation and ordered to pay restitution of $1,545 for stealing electrical conduit, fence posts and mesh fencing from the Allenwood correctional complex.
The sentence imposed Tuesday on Fred Hagenbuch, 52, of Danville, by U.S. Middle District Judge Christopher C. Conner adheres to a plea agreement.
His lawyer, George E. Lepley Jr., said the conviction likely will mean his client no longer will be able to coach youth sports in the Danville area as he has done for more than a decade.
When he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of government property, Hagenbuch, who is retired, claimed he thought the items he took on Dec. 10, 2010, had been discarded and he was unaware they were needed for a project at the Allenwood complex.
